Mbale, Uganda – In a significant boost to urban infrastructure, President Yoweri Museveni has officially launched several newly constructed roads in Mbale city, part of the Uganda Support for Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) Project. This event marks a milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance urban living conditions and stimulate economic growth in the region.

The roads unveiled include Naboa Road, Central Road (0.300km), Manafwa & Marketplace Road (0.440km), among others, all designed to improve connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and offer better access to key areas within the city. These developments are expected to catalyze both commercial and residential development, enhancing the quality of life for Mbale’s residents.

During the launch, President Museveni emphasized the importance of these infrastructural improvements for economic development. “These roads are not just for movement; they are pathways to prosperity. They will facilitate trade, ease transportation of goods and services, and ultimately contribute to poverty alleviation in this region,” he stated.

The USMID project, funded by the World Bank and supported by the Ugandan government, aims at transforming urban areas by enhancing institutional performance of municipalities, improving urban service delivery, and fostering economic growth. Mbale, being one of the 14 municipalities benefiting from this program, has seen significant upgrades in its infrastructure over the past years.

Local leaders and residents have expressed their gratitude for the project, highlighting how these roads will reduce travel times, lower vehicle maintenance costs due to better road conditions, and attract more investors to the area. “This is a day of celebration for us in Mbale. These roads will change the face of our city and our lives,” said Mayor Mutwalibi Zandya.

The launch was accompanied by a series of photographs capturing the moment President Museveni cut the ribbon, inspected the roads, and engaged with local officials and community members. The images show the president alongside municipal leaders, engineers, and residents, all gathered to witness the official opening of these transformative developments.

The event also served as a platform for discussing further development projects under the USMID initiative, with promises of more infrastructural enhancements in the pipeline for Mbale and other participating cities.
