Three people lost their lives in a road accident at Mbiko Trading Centre along the Jinja-Kampala Highway after a Mitsubishi Fuso truck, registration number UBF 164D, veered off the road and crashed into a trench.

The accident, which occurred around 7am, claimed the lives of the driver, John Lubega, 40, a turn man, Robert Kamoga, 29, and a passenger, Innocent Mbabazi, 16.

All the victims were residents of Mubende District.

SP Hellen Butoto, the Ssezibwa Region Police spokesperson, said preliminary investigations pointed to over-speeding as the cause of the accident, leading the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

Authorities transported the bodies to Jinja Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examinations while efforts were underway to clear the wreckage.

Police urged motorists to observe speed limits and exercise caution to prevent similar tragedies.
