Ntungamo Teachers Seen Torturing Student in Viral Video Remanded

The Ntungamo Magistrate’s Court in Ntungamo District has charged and remanded two teachers from Standard College Rwashamaire, who were seen in a viral video assaulting a student.

Aneb Mwesigye and Naboth Twesigye were charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

They pleaded not guilty to the offenses and were remanded until March 4, 2025, for a mention of their case.

The incident allegedly took place after the teachers accused 16-year-old Brian Akampa, a Form Two student, of escaping from the school grounds. I

It is alleged that Akampa had gone to Rwashamaire town to eat chapati and beans, locally known as ‘Kikomando,’ before returning to the school.

In the widely shared video clip, the two teachers mercilessly flogged Akampa and when he tried to run amidst pleas to be forgiven, he was grabbed at the door and slapped hard.

Then they forced him back on the floor for more strokes of the cane.

During the court session, Magistrate Sharon Nassuna inquired whether the accused had sureties to stand bail for them, but they presented none.

Ntungamo State Attorney Marriam Nambusi confirmed that inquiries into the case were complete.

The school is co-owned by Electoral Commission Commissioner Stephen Tashobya, who also owns Standard College Ntungamo and Standard Junior School.

The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba urging the police to apprehend the teachers.

Locals and commentators have called for tough penalties against the accused, condemning their brutal treatment of the student.
