Prof. Badru Kateregga: My Wife Beat Me Every Day Until My Head Changed Shape

The domestic disputes between Kampala University founder, Prof. Badru Kateregga, and his wife, Jolly Shubaiha Kateregga continue to capture widespread public attention.

The matter has fueled heated conversations both offline and across various social media platforms.

The marital wrangles have escalated into a full-blown public saga, spreading rapidly across social media like wildfires, with each party trading serious allegations against the other.

Prof. Kateregga claims that his wife has repeatedly subjected him to physical abuse, and also forcefully evicted him from his own house in Buziga, Kampala.

Despite his wife’s consistent denial of these accusations, Prof. Kateregga insists that he has endured prolonged mistreatment at her hands.

“Is this how my skull used to look like?” said Kateregga as he showed the multiple injuries on his skull he said were a result of sustained beatings by his wife.

”My skull had no injuries; see how it now looks like.”

Shubaiha accused her husband of neglecting his responsibilities as a father by failing to provide for their children.

However, speaking to reporters in Kampala, Prof. Kateregga dismissed the accusations.

“How can someone claim I have failed to take care for my own children? Can I fail to pay fees for our children? These children attend an international school. A child in primary two pays USD 20,000,” Katregga said.

What appears to be most distressing to Prof. Kateregga is what he described as his wife’s attempts to claim ownership of property he says he acquired long before their marriage.

He said that Shubaiha is seeking to take over some of his assets, including the house from which he was chased.

“She is now trying to claim a house that I personally purchased in 1993 during the time I was serving as Uganda’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia,” Prof. Kateregga said.

However, he strongly rejected claims that Shubaiha has any entitlement to Kampala University, one of his most prominent achievements.

He dismissed the claim that the institution was a joint effort, pointing out both the university’s age and his wife’s age to challenge her assertions.

“She claims that we acquired things together. No one acquired Kampala University with me. Kampala University has how many years, 26 years. If it is 26 years and she is 35, who started this university,” Kateregga asked.

Kateregga expressed trust in the judicial system to provide a fair resolution.

“Kampala University is not bothered by her stories. Let’s settle this in court. We will win her in court,” he said.

He noted that men often fall victim to deception in relationships, particularly when blinded by love.

Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has since asked Police to intervene in the matter.
