Makerere admits 1,732 students on government sponsorship

Makerere University has admitted 1,732 students under the government sponsorship scheme for the 2025/26 academic year. This is part of the government’s initiative to sponsor at least 4,000 students annually across various public universities in Uganda.

Makerere University continues to receive the largest share, with the remaining students distributed among other institutions such as Gulu University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Busitema University, Kabale University, Kyambogo University, Lira University, and Muni University .​

The university’s Academic Registrar, Prof. Buyinza Mukasi, confirmed that Makerere has received more slots this academic year compared to the previous one. Detailed admission lists and cut-off points for various courses are available on the university’s official platforms.​
