Mukono, Uganda – March 22, 2025 — Police in Mukono have arrested five suspects in connection with the murder of Ivan Oloya, a 30-year-old teacher at Seeta High School, Mbalala Campus.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, around 1:30 am, in Bajjo Cell, Nyenje Ward, Goma Division.
In an official statement released by SSP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, he confirmed: “The suspects were arrested after canine units were introduced to the scene, leading to critical leads that aided in their apprehension.”
The suspects in custody have been identified as:
• Kasumba Paul, 21, casual worker
• Mabale Simon, 23, casual worker
• Kibuuka Tom, 38, mechanic
• Lukodda Simon, 18, casual worker
• Kandoole Charles Dani, 16, casual worker
According to the statement, Oloya was heading home from his workplace when he was attacked near the gate of Code High School, where his wife, Abbey Mercy, also works as a teacher. He succumbed to injuries at the scene.
“The body has been taken to Mulago for a postmortem examination,” Onyango added, noting that investigations are still ongoing to establish the motive behind the killing.
This incident adds to a troubling pattern of violent crimes in Uganda.
According to the 2023 Annual Crime Report by the Uganda Police Force, a total of 4,539 cases of murder were reported across the country—an average of more than 12 killings per day.
Many of these cases are attributed to mob justice, domestic violence, and aggravated robbery.
Police have urged the public to remain calm and vigilant, assuring residents in the Mukono area that increased patrols and community engagement will be part of ongoing efforts to curb violence.
