Mr. Julius Mucunguzi, the spokesperson of the Electoral Commission, explained that the Commission is acting in compliance with the provisions of the Political Parties and Organizations Act of 2005. “The Electoral Commission has published in the Gazette an application by Promoters of the People’s Front for Freedom who wish to register a political party under the same name of People’s Front for Freedom or PF,” he said.

The purpose of publishing the application in the Gazette is to inform the general public of the fact that an application of this nature has been lodged with the Electoral Commission. According to Mr. Mucunguzi, “The law provides that anybody who may have an objection or a complaint or an issue to raise in respect of the application, whether it is on the constitution, whether it is on the colors, whether it is on any particulars that have been defined and published in the Gazette, is at liberty to bring it to the attention of the Electoral Commission within 14 days upon the publishing in the Gazette.”

If no objections are raised within the specified period, the Commission will proceed to issue a certificate of registration to the promoters. However, if complaints are received, the law provides a mechanism and procedure for examining any objections and reaching a resolution.
