Three granted bail in Museveni nomination disruption case

Three youths arrested for allegedly disrupting President Museveni’s nomination on June 28, 2025, were today granted bail by the LDC Chief Magistrate’s Court in Makerere.

The suspects, identified as Kisinzi Brian (19), Kyambadde Jamilu (23), and Odera Anthony (18), were ordered to pay a cash bail of Shs 1 million each. They have been in custody at Luzira Prison since July 1, 2025.

Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Doreen Ayinembabazi also directed the suspects’ parents, who served as sureties, to sign a non-cash bond of Shs 5 million each. This bond will be enforced if the accused fail to appear for their trial, scheduled for August 6, 2025.

The court noted that the trio lacked National Identification Cards despite being of eligible age. Their parents informed the court that they had recently registered for IDs during the National Identification and Registration Authority’s (NIRA) nationwide exercise, a revelation that surprised the court.

The three are among 14 youths arrested in Nakasero II Parish and other areas of Kampala on June 28 for assault and robbery.

According to prosecution, led by Patricia Cingtho from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the group allegedly attacked and robbed members of the public of money and mobile phones during President Museveni’s nomination.

Court was told that investigations by the prosecution are complete, and the trial is set to begin on August 6, 2025.
