The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has opened the first armored vehicle showroom in Uganda following a joint venture agreement between the United Arab Emirates’ Streit Group and the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC).
The armored showroom room, situated in Abayita Ababiri, along Entebbe Road, was launched by the Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Oleru Abason, who said the showroom will serve as a hub for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and growth.
“This is a testament to the government’s efforts to promote industrial partnerships that drive innovation and economic growth,” she added.
Speaking at the launch, Streit Group Chairman Mr. Guerman Goutorov said there is a need for Uganda to be protected together with her people, encouraging Ugandans to visit the showroom and learn about the vehicles on offer.
“If the country is undergoing massive development, it needs to be protected together with its people,” he said.
Lt. Gen. James Mugira, Managing Director of NEC, extended appreciation to the Streit Group and all other stakeholders for their unwavering support towards the project.
In July 2019, Streit Group and the UPDF commercial wing NEC signed a joint venture agreement in which the former promised to fund the establishment of an armored vehicle manufacturing facility in Uganda. The agreement led to the establishment of the Nakasongola-based armored vehicle factory that was officially launched by President Museveni in 2022.
The newly launched armored vehicle showroom will give Ugandans an opportunity to get firsthand knowledge and familiarize themselves with military machinery.
