A joint force of police and military personnel on Wednesday conducted a forceful raid on One Love Beach-Busabala, owned by National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the pop-star turned politician who is lso known as Bobi Wine said.
According to a statement shared on Kyagulanyi’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, security forces broke through the gates of the popular beach premises and entered by force.
The facility’s CCTV systems were reportedly cut off, effectively leaving no video evidence of the events.
Kyagulanyi further alleged that employees were rounded up by the armed personnel, while some, seeking refuge from the commotion, were targeted with tear gas in the kitchen area.
The number of employees detained or injured during the raid remains unclear.
“Police and military have raided our premises at one Love beach-Busabala, broken the gates and entered by force. our CCTV cameras have been cut offand our employees are being rounded up,” Kyagulanyi said.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of employees and the circumstances surrounding the operation.
The motive for the operation has not yet been officially communicated by authorities, and attempts to contact police and military representatives for a statement were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
When contacted the deputy UPDF Deputy Spokesperson Col Deo Akiiki referred the Nile Post to Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, who didn’t pick our repeated calls.
The NUP said they had planned a retreat for their foot soldiers at the facility.
This is not the first time Kyagulanyi, a prominent opposition leader and musician, has faced raids on properties associated with him.
Previous incidents have been widely criticized as politically motivated, given his outspoken stance against the government of President Museveni.
The incident has sparked widespread concern on social media, with supporters and human rights organisations condemning the heavy-handed approach of the security forces.
Mr Kyagulanyi was on his way to the facility to take stock of the situation at the time of writing this story.
