The Buganda Kingdom has announced the routes for the highly anticipated Kabaka Birthday Run, set to take place on Sunday, April 6, 2025, as part of celebrations marking Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s 70th birthday.
The official unveiling of the routes was held at Bulange Mengo by the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga.
The event will feature three race categories: 21 kilometres, 10 kilometres, and 5 kilometres.
However, routes under maintenance will not be used, as confirmed by Hajj Twaha Kawaase, the chairman of the committee overseeing the Kabaka Birthday celebrations.
The annual run is expected to attract thousands of participants, aim to promote health and wellness while raising awareness about HIV/Aids.
This year’s edition has already received significant support from various institutions.
The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has contributed Shs 5 million towards the event.
KCCA Executive Director Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki praised the kingdom for its role in advocating for health awareness and urged continued collaboration to foster social and economic development in Kampala.
The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, expressed gratitude to KCCA for its support and called upon Kampala residents to actively participate in the run.
He reaffirmed the kingdom’s commitment to working closely with KCCA for the smooth running of the city.
The National Drug Authority (NDA) has also joined the list of sponsors, with a contribution aligned with a memorandum of understanding signed between NDA and the Buganda Kingdom.
According to NDA official Fred Kabuye, the partnership aims to further health initiatives within Buganda.
Additionally, several schools have pledged support for the event, with Janan Schools donating Shs 10 million.
The proprietor, Mike Kironde, encouraged schools to participate and purchase jerseys in support of the cause.
With thousands of runners, walkers, and cyclists expected to take part, the 2025 Kabaka Birthday Run is set to be a landmark event, reinforcing Buganda Kingdom’s commitment to health and community welfare.
