A devastating tragedy unfolded in Kanungu District when the body of 40-year-old Arthur Nahurira was found lifeless in a bush near Kihihi Town Council.
The Police have registered the incident as a suspected suicide, with investigations still underway.
Nahurira, a worker at the Coca-Cola depot in Kihihi, was last seen on the evening of January 30, 2025, when he left his home at around 10:40 PM. His disappearance prompted his brother, Saulo Ndwana, to report the incident to Kihihi Police Station the following day.
In a haunting turn of events, Nahurira had sent a farewell message to his aunt, Edith Kiconco, before vanishing, which suggested the distress and despair he may have been feeling.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Police spokesperson, confirmed that Nahurira’s decomposing body was discovered on February 5, 2025, after locals reported a foul smell near the road.
“A Coca-Cola bottle containing poison and a packet of Forodan, a toxic substance, were found at the scene, indicating that Nahurira may have used these to end his life,” Maate explained.
Nahurira was dressed in black trousers, brown shoes, grey socks, and a white sweater when his body was found.
The police have taken the body to Kihihi Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination. Meanwhile, investigations continue to uncover the full circumstances surrounding Nahurira’s tragic death.
