Police investigate the disappearance of a prominent Masaka journalist’s son

Police  have launched an investigation into the disappearance of the son of CBS Radio journalist, Tomusange Kayinja.

The young man reportedly went missing last Thursday from Makindye, Kampala.

According to Kayinja, unknown assailants began calling her on Monday, demanding money in exchange for information about her son’s whereabouts.

“Since yesterday, they have been calling me asking for money,” she stated. In one of the chilling audio recordings, the alleged kidnappers demanded shs200,000, claiming they would reveal the location of her son’s body.

“We have your son’s body here, but he was badly bruised,” one of the alleged kidnappers said in the recording.

They further alleged that Kayinja’s son was killed in Sembabule District.

Twaha Kasirye, the spokesperson for the Greater Masaka police, confirmed that Kayinja had reported the matter to the authorities.

“It is true that journalist Kayinja informed us of his son’s disappearance, and we are doing everything possible to investigate the matter,” he said.

Police say they are treating the case as urgent and have deployed resources to track down the perpetrators while determining the truth of the kidnappers’ claims.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of journalists and their families amid increasing reports of criminal activity in the region.

Kayinja, visibly distressed, called on the authorities to act swiftly. “I just want my son back. I hope and pray that he is still alive,” she said.

The police have urged anyone with information regarding the case to proceed as investigations continue.
