Police in Kira Division are actively investigating an alarming case of aggravated torture involving a four-year-old girl, Claire Tumwekwase, which took place in the early hours of December 27, 2024. The incident occurred at approximately 0100 hours in Kikoko Zone, Namataba Cell, Kirinya Ward.
The accused, Precious Tumuhirwe, a 35-year-old housemaid, is in custody after being apprehended in Kabale District where she had fled post-incident. She is currently detained at Kabale Central Police Station, with plans for her transfer back to Kira Division for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
Claire Tumwekwase, the young victim, is under medical care at Nsambya Hospital, receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the ordeal. The circumstances leading to this tragic event are still being pieced together by investigators.
The child’s father, Michael Mwesigwa, who has been the sole caregiver since separating from Claire’s mother two years prior, employed Tumuhirwe through recommendations from acquaintances in Kabale. She had been working as a housemaid for the family for four years before this incident.
The Uganda Police Force has expressed vehement condemnation of any acts of violence, especially when directed at children, and has reaffirmed its commitment to justice. The community is urged to report any suspicions or evidence of abuse to the nearest police station to prevent such heinous acts.
