The Territorial Police in Mityana have registered a fatal accident that claimed the life of one of their own.
The deceased has been identified as Inspector of Police (IP) Nelson Namanya, a 48-year-old officer who was in charge of Kisita FFU Detach in Kassanda District.
He was also a resident of Kisita Barracks in the same district.
According to Police, the accident occurred on March 6, 2025, at approximately 8pm at Buswabulongo along the Mityana-Mubende road.
It involved a Renault truck, registration number UBJ 394S/UAD 535Q, whose driver is yet to be identified, and a Yamaha motorcycle, registration number UP 8016, which was being ridden by the deceased officer.
Preliminary findings indicate that the Renault truck, which is white and blue in colour, developed a mechanical problem while heading towards Mubende.
The driver parked it on the left-hand side of the road at Buswabulongo but failed to place any warning signs behind it to alert other road users.
At around 8pm, IP Namanya, who was riding his police-issued motorcycle, failed to notice the broken-down truck and crashed into its rear.
The impact left him with serious injuries, and despite efforts to save his life, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mityana Hospital.
According to the Police spokesperson of Wamala Region Rachael Kawala, the suspected cause of the accident has been attributed to the reckless and inconsiderate parking of the Renault truck’s driver, who is now being pursued by the police for arrest.
“We urge all motorists to always carry and use a pair of reflector triangles in case of a mechanical breakdown. This helps alert other road users and prevent such tragic incidents,Investigations into the matter are still ongoing.” Kawala told the Nile Post.
Police confirmed that traffic officers visited the accident scene, which has since been examined and documented and the deceased’s body is currently at Mityana Hospital Mortuary, awaiting a postmortem examination.
